Aiptek Media Tablet

2009-02-10 15:22 by Nailbar
Wow.. No, really. Wow. I love this device!

So the story goes like this; back in the days, when I was in the army, I got an opportunity to try one of these thingies out. I didn't like the experience so nothing really happened after that.

Later, a month back, or so, I got another opportunity. This time the experience was awesome. I just had to get one for my self. After suggesting this to the people who decide stuff at work they were all "meh, do as you please", after which I ordered the Aiptek Media Tablet 14000U online.

Today it arrived in the mail. This is the first thing I did with it.

Edit: Added another drawing (it was work related, if you wonder)

I know it's a bit blurry, but seen from afar I think it's still something to be pleased of.

Nice dude!! :D

Next up would be to test this on Linux. I hope.. I really hope it would work "out of the box" at home. Please, please, pleeaase!

Didn't work.. Well. It worked like a cursor; move pointer and such, but there was no support for fine strokes. Yet. I'll have to wait. Or get a Wacom.

I would love to get rid of...

Internet Explorer and Spam.

Seriously!

And here comes the rant; my super duper anti bot thingy, which was supposed to fend off comment spam, wasn't really that super after all. And now I'm being spammed like crazy! I'm currently testing a new version which ask the commenter to type a four letter password once in order to be granted write access in any form. Hop this works better. I bet it won't, though :'-(

Internet Exploder is farking up too. And this is inconsistent! I developed and tested the file manager with Firefox, and a bit with Internet Explorer, and all was fine. Then, by accident, a collegue discovered that opening a file for download directly, e.g. not through a link on the site, but by typing in the URL in the address bar, would cause Internet Explorer to fail. This also happened when opening Internet Explorer in order to download a file which one has linked to in a mail, or something.

The problem was that the problem did not appear when I tested it on my virtual machine. Either it's a server setup, or Internet Exploder handles localhost-URL's differently from Interwebbed ones, or maybe it's just the case that IE is a crappy web browser which annoys the crap out of me!

Sheez!

A ray tracer in JavaScript

2009-01-30 17:46 by Nailbar

It's friday, so I do a lot of pointless stuff. This friday was the day of the [JavaScript ray tracer]. Edit: [newer version]. Click the link, wait a while, and click on the button "Hit me!" to start the trace. Since JavaScript doesn't handle images I had to make the output in styled divs. It's a bit slow but you get the idea. Check out the source code too! Sorry about reusing variables for different tasks and the lack of documentation. Maybe I'll upload a better version later. I also have plans on porting it to PHP too, but we'll see.

A ray trace with 15 spheres Ray tracing logic

Also, played a little with a "real" ray tracer, [POV-ray], and created a nice little looping animation. It was 4.2 megs big so I couldn't upload it to this site (max 2 megs :-P), but go ahead and follow [this link] to check it out on the experimental site; [HedWerks].

The site is a bit slow so don't expect the animation it to download fast.

It's been noted that Internet Exploder doesn't handle the output like an adult so if you want to see the ray traced image you'll need to get your self a real browser like Firefox, Opera or Links... Um...

Uploaded a better version which is easier to understand than version 1.1. Still no cure for Internet Exploder. Sorry.

I'll tell you later...

2009-01-30 17:28 by Nailbar
Right. So I went to my friends house a while back, 27:th, in fact. He has a Macbook, or something, so I figured I'd go ahead and test how well the Nailblog performs in Safari. It was horrible!

First problem was that Safari apparently displays colors differently; The background color was not the same dark turquoise color so it didn't fit in with the background image.

Second problem was that when I logged in or posted an entry the redirect system got borked so I always ended up with a 404 page; after something is stored in the "database", or someone logs in, the PHP script sends back a header telling the browser to redirect. For example, if one adds a comment, header("location:?act=blog&id=1"). This is interpreted by normal browsers that it should replace "?act=whatever" in the address bar with "?act=blog&id=1", which results in the user being redirected to that specific page. Safaris ingenious result was "?act=whatever?act=blog&id=1".

Third problem... Well. I can't remember the third problem 'cause safari erased my initial rant which I tried to post on my friends computer!

Nailblog-1.1.3

2009-01-25 20:27 by Nailbar
Again a new release; this time with better under-the-hood file manager features which in turn made it possible to also release the first add on module.

Head on to the [Nailblog] blog to get the latest Nailblog installation, and the new flash video player module.

2009-01-26 19:22 by Nailbar
Already working on the next version; added support for a WYSIWYG, which will be available as an add on module (tinyMCE). This, of course, broke the "Convert to Freeform" function on the Edit Blog Entry page so I'll have to fix that before publishing the update.

Thinking of adding a module for keeping track of visitors too while I'm at it.

My first addon module

2009-01-21 11:36 by Admin
Stay tuned for Nailblog version 1.1.3. The new feature here is a change in the file manager which adds support for addon modules to handle different media types. I've created a flash video addon module using third party software [http://flowplayer.org/] which makes it possible for me to post videos on this site.

Here's a sample video: [flowplayer.flv]

I'll soon release the next Nailblog version and the third party module too, so, like I said in last post; Stay tuned!

Apparently the updates I did to the file manager to get the Flowplayer module working broke the gallery module. Let's see if I can do something about that...

Edit: Done!
