Spiky mattress of doom

2009-01-20 21:39 by Nailbar
Now I've tried that too.

My wife got a spike mattress for Christmas. For some reason she's a little afraid to try it, but since I'm the kind who would run head first into a dark hole out of curiosity, I figured I might give it a try.

It was an interesting experience. Didn't hurt too much and it felt warm. When I got up I could feel it stick to my back and after that my back had gone all red and was covered with tiny pits.

I'll post a video if I ever get the flash video module working so stay posted!

And here's the video I promised.. Not that great. Must be bad acting or something ;-P

And also, a note to self; ffmpeg.exe -y -i input.avi -vcodec libx264 -s 384x288 -acodec libmp3lame -ar 22050 -f flv output.flv

Nailblog-1.1.2

2009-01-15 23:08 by Nailbar
I'm just about done with the Nailblog version 1.1.2, which sports a new module for creating simple html pages. This is now used for the [Links] page so you, or I, no longer have to browse between several pages in order to see all available links. Another new feature is a "force" function which I've added to sets.php. Note that sets.php is never updated when patching so you may have to add this function manually or make a full installation while resetting the sets.php file. The force function allows the addition of static, server admin defined, functionality which happens after all the modules are done but before the template is initiated. I use it to forward all requests for the old Links blog page to the new Links html page, for instance.

Also, while commenting on another site where the Nailblog is in use, I managed to explain the anti-bot-thingy which some times may cause users who add new entries or comments get;

In order to keep most of the bots away a random generated password is created when the blog page loads and stored in a session variable. When someone submits a comment, that password is sent too (encrypted using JavaScript). On the server side the posted password is checked against the same password in the session variable and if those don't match you get an error.

The good thing is that bots generally don't store cookies or parse JavaScript code, which is needed to add a comment.

The bad thing is that the comment password times out whenever you load a blog page (which may happen if you browse the same site in different windows or tabs).

Nailblog-1.1.0

2009-01-11 09:13 by Admin
Alright! So I've released another version of the Nailblog. The jump from 1.0.5 to 1.1.0 indicates that there are some bigger changes going on again. I redesigned how modules are handled and added some more potential features. Also, the default template was redesigned to contain no images but support left and right columns. It's quite fugly but it's simple and a good frame for creating new, compatible, templates. The graphical templates were removed from the core installation and may be downloaded separately.

You'll find download links in the [Programs] section.

And now it's time to add more features... I want to add a module for creating static pages, a side menu, a WISYWYG editor and a flash player for the file manager.

And so on and so forth.

2009-01-12 19:58 by Nailbar
And now the Nailblog-1.1.1 is available. The update consists of one bugfix and one new feature; The menu editor had a serious flaw which corrupted the menu if one edits and saves an existing menu entry.

The new feature is a chat room. It's a simple thing with no security features what so ever, so you might want to keep an eye on it if spam starts piling up. Basically you start the chat by telling it your nick name and after that you'll find who's online in the right box and what's being said in the left. Then you can load the entire conversation by clicking a link, and rename your self by clicking another. You'll get removed from the user list when you close the chat page or browse away from it.

Note that the chat room has its quirks and is still a work in progress. It starts repeating it self randomly after you change your nick name, for example.

It's getting bigger

2009-01-06 13:03 by Admin
On a side note today; The backup file for the Nailbox, that's all the data including images packed in a tar.gz file, is now about 16.8 MB big. Now you know.

2009-03-03 15:10 by Nailbar
18 blog entries later (not counting the other blogs), the downloaded backup file is now 29.2 MB, 33.3 MB unpacked, and contains 550 files.

Nailblog-1.0.5

2009-01-06 12:33 by Nailbar
Another update. It's all there in [Programs]. The fixes in this one are:

  • Logged in users can change their passwords again
  • Alert messages are more emphasized
  • Changed the color of table content and list content in the darknail theme
  • The page switcher is now only visible if there are more than one pages in the blog
  • Files are folders are now alphabetically ordered in the file manager

Though I'm still not content with the file manager...

2009-01-06 12:47 by Nailbar
So now I'm thinking about what features I should add to version 1.1.x... A WYSIWYG editor would be good. Perhaps use one that already exists. For the file manager I'd also like to add a flash player.

The problem which arises will be that I have a maximum upload limit on this server which is 2 MB. Adding all these third party bling things will make that a problem. Maybe I could make them an addon which must be downloaded separately. Same thing with different templates.
