Nailblog

This is the program this website is based on. If you do try it out, please send me some feedback!

[Documentation]
Installation instructions and user manual can be found here.

Currently I'm working on version 2.0, but that's still in beta so stick to 1.2 until it's done. The 1.2 version is separated in three categories; Core installation files, templates and modules. The core installation files is what you need to install a working Nailblog on your server. I'm keeping that file rather small and there is no graphical content in there.

New releases are posted in chronological order with download links and patches.

Nailblog-2.0.0-beta2

2009-08-06 21:46 by Nailbar
Developement installation: [nailblog-2.0.0-beta2.tar.gz]

I've been busy! The biggest thing here is that I've added complete translation support for both site and content. I've updated the [Sample site] so have a peek.

Actually, that's all I've been up to for this release so I won't bother with the changelog this time. There was some minor fix in the template but all other changes were related to the translation support.

Note to self:

  • Dark Skin
  • Unordered lists
  • Counter module
  • Gallery module
  • RSS module

Nailblog-2.0.0 progress

2009-07-16 21:57 by Nailbar
I have to tell you, it's a tedious task to add translation support. The milestone for Nailblog-2.0.0-beta2 will be complete translation support (english and swedish and an easy way for site admins to add more languages), plus complete support for translated content.

My goal is that one would only have to click a link on a page and it will switch to the selected language.

So where am I now?

The core system and modules user and system are translated. I have yet to add translations for the menu module (doing that right now), and for the data module. After that I will have to add support for translated content to the core system and all the modules except for the user module. I don't think login names or user names need translations.

After that?

For nailblog-2.0.0-beta3, 4 and etc I'm thinking of adding a page module and file manager module and all the other modules currently in use in nailblog-1.2 until I feel ready to release it as version 2.0.0.

I figured the blog module will not need any content translation. If someone want's to blog in multiple language I doubt they'll say the same thing in both blogs anyway. Convince me otherwise if I'm wrong.

And now back to the programming...

Nailblog-1.2.17

2009-06-30 23:21 by Nailbar
Full installation: [nailblog-1.2.17.tar.gz]
1.2.16 - 1.2.17 patch: [nailblog-1.2.17-patch.tar.gz]

Added some minor new features.

Changelog:

  • Pressing return in the filterbox on the links page takes you directly to the top most visible link.
  • Added a "Remember me" checkbox to the login page.

Todo:

  • Search function for the blog module.
  • Tag support for the links module.
  • Easier counter module.
  • Fix that thing with the backup module.
  • Fix so using return to follow the top most visible link on the links page also raises said link to the top.
  • File manager seems to fail on some permission things - try giving guests write permission or add wildcard to groups.

Right. Apparently I forgot to use htmlspecialchars on the summary in blog_editentry. No biggie. Borks the edit page though.

Nailblog-2.0.0-beta1

2009-06-08 23:59 by Nailbar
Developement installation: [nailblog-2.0.0-beta1.tar.gz]

Do not point this installation to a data directory with Nailblog-1 data. They are not yet compatible.

Well.. It's now in beta so I will start adding the useful stuff now. This release is already somewhat good for creating a basic home page, yeay!

Changelog:

  • Added "safe mode" which forces the system to load only the basic modules required for system administration. This is required when fixing such things as module conflicts which renders the system unusable.
  • Added a module for displaying basic HTML data on the site.
  • Added support for "nailtags" to the user authentication module (displays user info) and to the system module (displays system info).

Still missing inspiration for a good default template but I'll get there...

I've added a sample site using the Nailblog-2 system. Here it is. Enjoy!

Nailblog-1.2.16

2009-06-08 16:03 by Nailbar
Full installation: [nailblog-1.2.16.tar.gz]
1.2.15 - 1.2.16 patch: [nailblog-1.2.16-patch.tar.gz]

This is just a quickie which only effects third party modules connected to a database. See the changelog for more info.

Some functionality I should fix or add with Nailblog-1.2.17:

  • Links page: add tag support, and first link should load if user presses return after typing a keyword.
  • Login: Remember last login.
  • Blog: Search for keywords, and maybe better navigation.
  • Counter: Hits only-mode which disables logging, and possibility to clear only parts of the log, and automatically marked common bots.
  • Backup: The backup files seems to contain some garbled information. Doesn't seem to bother the restoration process, but it still worries me.

Nailblog-2.0.0-alpha3

2009-06-07 23:10 by Nailbar
Developement installation: [nailblog-2.0.0-alpha3.tar.gz]

Do not point this installation to a data directory with Nailblog-1 data. They are not yet compatible.

The core system and modules are all working as intended. Some bugs might show up after I start testing them when I hit beta, though.

Features at this point:

  • User authentication.
  • User management.
  • Users can change their own password and name.
  • System management.
  • Security measures like a reset button if the admin disables the user or system module.
  • Menu where entries can be placed anywhere.
  • Complete documentation including API.
  • Read Only mode.

Next I will add a module for displaying static content anywhere, and <nailblog></nailblog> tag handling to the system and user modules. After that I will bump the version number up to beta1 and start adding the important features such as file manager, blogs, pages, links and so on.

It will get out of beta after I feel it can take over as main system for my own site. That requires legacy support for converting old data to the new format.

2009-06-08 15:32 by Nailbar
I should need some kind of method for disabling all modules but the absolutely necessary in case of a module conflict which would otherwise cripple the entire system.

Something like $nailblog_forcemodules=array("system","user");.
