MiniDuel-1.5

2009-09-09 21:34 by Nailbar
The game: [miniduel-1.5.tar.gz]
(just unpack and run)

Fixed a bug where the arrow keys wouldn't work on most systems.

More ideas for coming releases:

  • Ships should always spawn as AI-controlled.
  • When all ships are AI-controlled, center camera on groups of ships.
  • In one player mode, center camera on that ship.
  • In two player mode, center camera on both ships in split screen.

One thing you should try after you've gotten used to playing the game: Start the game, play a little, note how difficult the AI-controlled ships are. Let the game play for it self for a few minutes. Then come back, play a little, see if anything's changed.

Due to some kind of "survival of the fittest"-effect the AI-controlled ships should get more difficult with time even though they are randomly generated, because the more difficult ships are more likely to stay alive until you get back and start playing again.

MiniDuel-1.4

2009-04-08 21:05 by Nailbar
The game: [miniduel-1.4.tar.gz]
(just unpack and run)

Small AI update:

  • Made some changes to the AI so it works better and will now search for powerups if ship is damaged beyond a surten point.

Some ideas for next release:

  • Different game modes; instant action, increasing number of ships, screensaver.
  • Move all Xlib calls to a different header which can be replaced by corresponding Windows calls.
  • Make console output grep-able.

MiniDuel-1.3

2009-02-25 22:11 by Nailbar
The game: [miniduel-1.3.tar.gz]
(just unpack and run)

Small update:

  • Made TAB switch the overview map on/off instead of showing it while you hold down the key.
  • Improved the bullet-hit-ship check so it works on lower frame rates too.

MiniDuel-1.2 Screenshots

Some explanation needed (in chronological order):

  1. The starting scene; player one and two and the green dot showing the way to the center of the galaxy.
  2. Green ships are AI controlled. If you don't touch your ships controls it will time out and become AI controlled. Red dots are enemy ships, red boxes are bullets.
  3. Damaged ships are indicated by smoke and fire.
  4. When a ship explodes it leaves one or more powerup boxes which can be picked up by other ships.
  5. When a players ship explodes its score table will be shown; in this case it has not killed any one, died once, and has no powerups.
  6. Pressing TAB shows a minimap where ships are shown as black boxes, dead ships red boxes, powerups black dots, and bullets as red dots.
  7. Pressing down (S for left player, arrow down for right) shows the score table; the right player have killed four enemy ships (but not in this lifetime), and died once. No powerups.
  8. Right player (human controlled) just destroyed an enemy ship.
  9. Right player killed left player and uses a powerup (missile blast).
  10. Setting the number of players to something more (150 in this example) produces a more intense battle where there are always several mini-battles going on in different parts of the space.
  11. Radar shows many enemy ships about.
  12. Another minimap view where several mini-battles are clearly visible.
  13. View from the middle of a mini-battle. A missile is visible in the top right part of the screen.

MiniDuel-1.2

2009-02-22 20:25 by Nailbar
The game: [miniduel-1.2.tar.gz]
(just unpack and run)

Did some updates on the game:

  • Made the overview map more interesting by adding color and made powerups, bullets and missiles visible.
  • When playing with many ships (50 or more) there will now be more mini-battles than one big in the center; reduced the amount ships are pulled towards the middle and made ships spawn more towards the edges.

2009-02-25 08:18 by Nailbar
Todo:

  • Make the minimap stay open/closed after TAB has been clicked.

Take your ship to the center of the world (green dot) where you must fight enemy ships with the same goal. Pick up powerup boxes to become superior.

This game should work on most Linux distros with Xorg installed, I think... Just unpack it, go into the folder and run it. As for processor power, it depends on how many ships, bullets and stars you want to play with. Running with five ships, 500 bullets and 250 stars gives me 340 fps on my computer. 250 ships, 25000 bullets and 250 stars at 50 fps.

I'm not promising this will work. I just made it for fun.
