Now that Nailblog-2 is stable enough to actually use, I will now slowly migrate to it. This blog continues here.

Ps. Nailblog-2.0.4 is released.

Nailblog-2.0.3

2010-08-28 21:25 by Nailbar
Full installation: [nailblog-2.0.3.tar.gz]
2.0.2 to 2.0.3 patch: [nailblog-2.0.3-patch.tar.gz]

This update will corrupt all your existing blogs and menus. I don't expect anyone to actually be using this program at this moment so I didn't bother to make a fix for it.

Also, I've been busy with other stuff.

Changelog:

  • Added viewmode selector to File manager.
  • Added File manager to Menu quick list.
  • Replaced some Owner-Ids with Owners names.
  • Moved Blog and Menu data to php files so they can't be read directly.

Ants

2010-06-29 11:31 by Nailbar
Got carried away reading about cellular autonama so I decided to make my own ant farm.

It works in Firefox and uses the HTML5 canvas so in theory it should work on any HTML5 enabled browser.

Enjoy!

ants.html

Basically it generates a couple of ants with a random set of 8 genes which dictates what color the underlying pixel will turn into, and how the ant will move to the next pixel, depending on what color the current pixel is.

Click Zap to mutate an ant, and Kill to restart an ant in a new place with completely random genes.

The eight genes are sets of three numbers each; Activation color, New color, Action. If a gene is "641" then this means that if the ant steps on a pixel with color 6, then it will turn that pixel into color 4, and turn right.

Action codes; 0=forward, 1=turn right, 2=turn left, 3=reverse.

For example, the gene set of 022,152,201,372,440,562,620,721, which was generated randomly by the program, turned out to be Langton's Ant:

langtons_ant.jpg

Since JavaScript is very hackable, here's the code to make one of the ants into Langton's ant:

javascript:a[0].g1=[2,5,0,7,4,6,2,2]; a[0].g2=[2,2,1,2,0,2,0,1]; a[0].x=400; a[0].y=300; updategenes(0);

Just copy-paste into the browsers address bar and press Return while the program is running. You may need to tweak the a[0].x, and a[0].y parts to place the ant in an empty spot so it won't tangle up with other ants.

Update

Updated the ant program so it's not limited to a fixed number of ants or genes.

WebSpace

2010-04-16 22:05 by Nailbar
I don't know if that name is taken or whatever, but I put together a small browser based JavaScript space shoot-em-up.

Really crappy controls. Sorry about that.

Here's a live version: http://www.waxjism.org/nail/stuff/webspace/

And here's the source: webspace.tar.gz

And here are some graphics from the game:

Nailblog 2.0.2

2010-03-25 12:53 by Nailbar
Full installation: [nailblog-2.0.2.tar.gz]
2.0.1 to 2.0.2 patch: [nailblog-2.0.2-patch.tar.gz]

Added the file manager module. It's still a bit buggy but usable if you avoid experimenting too much.

Copying or moving a folder to another folder were a folder with the same name already exists is known to corrupt the index a bit.

Changelog:

  • Added a file manager module.
  • Renamed index.php to nailblog.php so it can be installed next to an existing system.
  • Added nailblog_delete for removing files by GLOB.
  • Added translations to Nailblog core and fixed translation related bug.
  • Added anti-bot measurements to the blog module.
  • Clicking blog entry titles switches between single entry and multi-entry view.

Bonus; installing several Nailblogs along with another site

All the Nailblog2 files are located inside the nailblog folder. The init file is from now on nailblog.php so, if you have a website already, and don't want to replace it with Nailblog, but install Nailblog alongside it, you just have to make sure that you have no folder named nailblog and no file named nailblog.php that will be overwritten.

If you want Nailblog to be your primary system then rename nailblog.php to index.php.

You can also install several different Nailblogs using the same core code. Just copy and rename the nailblog.php file and define different data folders for each copy.

Example:

index.php - the primary site (in this case something non-nailblog)
nailblog/ - the nailblog folder where all the nailblog code exists
nailblog.php - one Nailblog installation:
* $nailblog_data="../data1/";
test.php - another Nailblog installation:
* $nailblog_data="../data_test/";

In this example you get the old non-nailblog page when you visit the directory or index.php. By going to nailblog.php you access one Nailblog installation, and going to test.php you visit another.

Applying an upgrade patch you will automatically upgrade both Nailblog installations because they use the same code.

Nailblog 2 news

2010-01-26 07:11 by Nailbar
It's been a while since I posten anything on Nailblog 2. It's like a dream I never had time to finish. The idea was great but I never put any effort into it.

Yesterday, however, i managed to do some coding on it. I also set up a new site for the absolute latest version so that you won't have to look at the almost never changing demo site I showed you earlier. This version is the true developement version where I will test new things and blog about them as soon as I get the blog module working.

At the time of this writing Nailblog 2 consists of a working core system (that's the core plus administration, user management, and a menu module) plus a working basic data module (same as on the demo site) and a half finished blog module.

The blog module was ported from Nailblog 1 but then I figured I should remake every part of it so at this time the parts that work are blog_admin, blog_edit, blog_save and blog_delete. That's means all the parts of the blog administration group. The parts that still use the old code and does not work because of the new code are everything that has got to do with the actual blogging and commenting.

Oh, and I use a new template for the developement site. That's always something.

BugHunt

2010-01-17 09:29 by Nailbar
Being stuck with no Internet access and nothing but a fresh Windows Installation made me do the only logica thing I could think of; Program a JavaScript game in Notepad.

So here I present to you BugHunt!

bughunt.html

Or BLEH!, as it was initially called.

It's not standards compliant. I don't know if it works in anything other than Firefox 3.5.5 for Windows XP. It's just something quick and simple I had to make to calm down.
